Camino de Santiago
the way of St James

Zubiri to Pamplona 21 km.
We are traveling together as a group of 6, but on the Camino, things change morph and evolve. Six becomes 8, and 8 become 10. A Camino family is formed. This is a very unique family, a little upside down. With its grandmother’s and grandfather, it’s daughters and sons and grandson (interestly enough named Marley) the eb and flow of the group is ever changing and moving, joining , separating and regathering. Moving to to the Alberge and moving out with the crack of dawn. Walki

Day 3 Roncevalles to Zubiri, 21 km. 550 mtr.
After another stunning thunder and lightening show with some amazing torential showers we woke to a calm and dynamic day.. Roncevalles being at 950 mtr. Allowed us a easier morning trek, moving up and down thru about 100mtr. climbs every 5-7 km. Dropping to 700 mtr. before the summit of 810 mtr. The forests were a combination of beautiful boxwood with towering pines as the canapy. The odd gecko scurried away as the tremble of foot steps near. From the summit the trudge down

Day 2-Orrison to Roncevalles, Route de Napoléon 17.4 km. 1450 m.
An amazing lightening show last night, we rose to low fog, which gave to a beautiful sunrise and the promise of a lovely day. After a french breakfast (white bagette, butter, jam, juice and coffee) the trek began, With packs forwarded it was still a hard and steady climb, moving back thru forest and then up above the tree line. I was taken by so many senses, the beauty of the rolling landscape, the rugged outcrops, and green grassy sloping meadows perfect for the cows, sheep

Sept. 6 2014 St. Jean Pied de Port – Orrison
The day began overcast, foggy and cool with a promise of a comfortable climb of about 650 mtr. Sending our extra gear forward, breakfast and then a warm up climb around the citadel brought our leaving time to 11 am. The climb to Orrison should take us about 3hrs. with an average rate of 2 km per hr. As we left St. Jean we admired the similar climate as our own, the high tree canopy, with the exception of random tropical plans and more coniferous trees. Quickly, that changed a

The Pellegrinos Gather
Today as the rain cleared and the skies opened, giving us the oppurtunity to step out under the partial blue sky. As our path became clear and our daily journey unfolded we glanced up and we’re struck by the sign before us. We are already on the way, our journey has begun. If you are not familiar with the signage we are leaving St. Johann and embarking on the way of St. James signified by the shell and arrow below. 3 more weeks!!
Time is certainly coming upon us fast. As we seemingly individually train, pack and prepare for our journey together, the closer we get the more evident it is that this journey will be done completely alone, in our heads, minds and hearts while our bodies walk and talk with friends, family and strangers amoungst us. As we prepare, some in the mountains and trails in BC and others in the mountains of Germany, it is the same focus, “one foot in front of the other”. And so it w

“the Rock”
There is a tradition on the camino to bring a stone from home and rub all your fears, hurts and sorrows into the stone which you can place at the base of the Cruz de Ferro. “Here I leave my fear of loss and lack. I release myself from anything that will keep me from moving on. May I find transformation and with it PEACE. e my rock of the Camino!

preparation…
Countdown to camino…on September 6 we will begin the 800+ km journey to Santiago de Compostela. Training has begun to somehow prepare for this transformational journey, although when i think of this, there really is no way to prepare. Physically yes, but internally, let me say that i am preparing to enter a space of allowance. I am grateful to my friends Frank and Liz for the idea and the inspiration and the patience as I came to the decision to join them.

Preparing for the Camino
Welcome to our blog. Here Cheryl and I will share with you our experience during our journey along the Camino de Santiago. Along with us – in our sound healing first aid kit, our tuning forks – C&D and the weighted Otto 128. July 23 2014 Rain or shine the Camino comes ever so closer. Today, out in the weather (torrential rains) we were initiated into our first “rain training”. Note to self……bring rain pants. The rain was warm and I was soaked, even in such a short time I
